Ancient Swords

Ancient Swords have been used for several thousand years and originated before AD in the BC era. The Egyptians, Greeks, Celtics & Romans are who people think of when it comes to using these types of swords as close combat weapons.

However Swords were not the primary weapon that was used by the Egyptians. More commonly they went to battle with Spears, Clubs & Axes. Egyptians tended to use the Long Dagger & Short Swords. The only exception would have been the Khopesh or Sickle Sword.

Greeks back then had a mighty infantry as well. They went to battle with the Hoplite Sword. These swords were 2 feet long and Leaf Shaped and were employed primarily as a backup weapon. The Celts used the same basic types of swords the Greeks did around 700 to 600 B.C. However their swords were much lengthier and weighed a lot more.

There was a Sword used back then called the Roman Gladius Sword, and this was the most used Ancient Sword of the time. Roman Legions used these swords as standard issue and went to battle with these for centuries. Ancient Swords were well known as a status symbol for soldiers of that era. The Roman Empire was renowed in issuing very specific types of swords that represented rank & royalty.
