Katana Swords

The Katana Sword, pronounced as (kah-ta-nah), comes from the term "sori" which means a curve of the blade. It is a single edged sword. This is what generally distinguishes this type of sword from Straight Bladed or Double Edged Swords. Contrary to popular belief, the word was actually adopted from the Portugese Language. The Portugese which spell it Catana which means a "large knife". However the Japanese don't distinguish from plurar and singular, so whether you said "Katanas" or "Katana" you would be correct.

The Katana Sword has a very original appearance. They are all curved, slim and have a single edged blade as mentioned before. The guard on these are either circular or squared, and they have a long grip so you can hold them in both hands. The Samurai of Feudal Japan are who these swords have been mostly associated with. This sword is mostly known for it's extreme sharpness and cutting ability.

I'm sure you've seen martial arts movies where peoples heads or arms are chopped off. Not to sound so gruesome but this is the Katana Sword in action for you. As a general rule these Swords are always longer than 23.6 inches or 60 cm.

Cleaning Your Katana Sword

When caring for your Katana Sword, make sure you keep the blade nicely oiled and polished. If you don't, you can cause a lot of damage to this sword. The moisture residue that is natural coming from a human will cause rust to form on the blade if it isn't cleaned off. Clean your Katana Sword with Clove Oil. If you store your sword for long periods of time without using it, inspect it often and air it out so rust and mold won't form on it.
